Conway's Game of Life is an example of a cellular "automaton" as he called it. This is a model where individual cells change state based on a set of simple rules. Eventually the system should reach a steady state when the rules prevent cells from change.

Refresh the page to re-start the game with a new random seed. The toroidal array connects each edge to its opposite edge.

Our small system might stabilize while you are still here on the page! Keep an eye out for patterns known as "gliders" and "blinkers" that will emerge from time to time.
